Hola. I have the opportunity to sit down with a prominent massage therapist, meditation teacher, and clinical mental health masters student this coming Tuesday to discuss floating's efficacy with mood disorders and PTSD. She is also interested in contraindications in such treatments. She will take the fruits of our conversation to her professors, who could be really great contacts not only for my business but also for float research in general. So far I have forwarded her the scientific research list from float tank solutions, and I'll be looking at float conference talks to see if there's some goodies in there, but I wanted to reach out on here as well. Do you know of an article or anything on mood disorders or PTSD and floating? Any other guidance you might have to prepare me to represent floating would also be appreciated.

What impeccable timing. I just received a communication from a staunch supporter and organizer for floatation who recently hired a phd to sift through all the research in order to formulate more easily distributable information on the researched benefits side of floatation... I will bring him into this discussion...

Luke, you can PM me and I can get you in touch with the person I'm working with.

Basically, I've been told there's one single-patient study where PTSD was included in the patient's diagnosis amongst other medical issues. There may be other PTSD studies and I can inquire with the researcher on Monday.

Mood disorders .. There are many articles which address depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. I'm not sure we have access to all the articles at the moment, but the Master's student shouldl be able to access many of the ones published in major journals. I can send you the research list if you provide me with your email address.

I don't know if any particular contradictions are indicated in the studies. Generally, contraindications include powerful sedatives, pacemakers, schizophrenic tendencies or being prone to seizures. If someone is on medication, e.g. a high dosage of Zoloft, my guess is a medical doctor should be consulted first.

I PMed you Mark, so if it didn't work let me know. The messages appear in the upper right area of the page, and have been easy for me to miss for weeks sometimes. Thank you :)

Great to see you back in action Mark! :)

Your Masters student isn't Christie, by chance, is it? If not, I have someone to introduce you too.

I thought it worth mentioning that the comment about the notifier not being easily visible did not go unnoticed. We have upgraded the notification system to be floating so it is always visible, and easily seen. :)

I DID notice that, just hadn't commented. Very well done. This is one of my top three favorite internet sites. Thank you for all you do.

Would also like any information on this subject. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Alcohol & Drug Certified with a private practice. I am adding a float tank at this time due to the issues I see in the mental health world and overmedicating the public. Please add me to any information you find on this subject!

Pacemakers are a contraindication? Why?

Comment
I'm wondering if it has to do with heating elements and emf. If so, not for all tank types

There is this excellent talk by Justin Feinstein from last year's float conference:

He's discussing anxiety specifically, but there's a section where he reviews every study he could find, including some that were more focused on depression or general stress.
